You cannot do anything with a recommendation if you cannot buy it in
 your computershop. Better work this thing the other way around.
Ask the computershop, friends with computers, what is available.
Get the brand/model and main specifications. And ask again.
Ask the SUPPLIER this question, let him now that 'you are Linux'.
Eventually he will ask his supplier 'if it can be used with Linux'.

If you are in a place with no or little choice of special hardware
 (or at ridiculous prices), consider alternatives.
Harddisks are getting cheap now, below $20/GB. All my essential data
 is on an extra harddisk, now in storage with my backup-floppies.
Another solution I like is to use 'the old computer' to store the
 backups. A parallel cable (cable between the printer ports) works
 very well.
Or set up a simple network. Instead of using parallel-cable.
