Not sure. I followed one set of instructions and then the other. Although
I'm sure something happened, I'm too now to explain exactly what. I
downloaded an .rpm for gnucash and tried that instead. With that I got a
directory, /gnucash.1-2-3. From the GNOME file manager, I tried clicking
on the executable to run the program and nothing happened. So, I'm kind of
still at square one.
I read though chapter 7 of Running Linux at a local bookstore. I'm not
sure this shed any light on the situation at hand.

That's why I want to learn Linux. I want to get some grease under my
fingernails. Linux is not Windows where all the decisions and choices are
made for you and then something doesn't configure right and you get an
absolutely correct, perfectly useless help file. I like that. I'm just
frustrated right now because I can't make it work. I don't understand
enough to explain why I can't make it work. I felt this way with Win 3.1
and MS-DOS. But, like someone pointed out, with repeated exposure, I'll
get the hand of it.
