First tell us what distro you have or are planning to install

What you'll have to do is:
1. Repartition your harddrive, you'll need at least three partitions. One for
M$, one for Linux and a Swap partition.
Better, place Linux on a separate HDD.
2. Boot from the CD or with a boot and rootdisk. Depending on the distro you
have.
