You'll need to explain a bit more about what you have tried and what the
problems are. (BTW, I assume the PNP in the Subject: is a typo and you meant
PPP - if I'm wrong and you are raising a PNP question, you need to be a bit
more direct about what it is.) Start by telling us what modem you are using
-- the AT command set isn't as standard as you seem to be assuming, and as a
result the string you've included below isn't unambiguous.

I checked a couple of modem manuals, and S11 does seem consistently to
specify DTMF duration -- but my manuals say S11=95 is the usual default, so
what are you changing from? &F has different meanings in the two manuals I
consulted -- in one, it restores factory defaults (whatever they may be for
your modem), while for the other, it enables "direct mode operation WITHOUT
flow control" (probably messy on a typical dial-upp connection).

After clearing this part up, please tell us what symptom you are trying to
respond to, how you are trying to change the init string, what the "couple
of things" are that you've tried, and what the results were. If you're
having trouble with DTMF, why not try switching to pulse mode -- not ideal
for the long term, but it is a sturdy alternative, and it will let you be
sure that your problem really is with the tones, not something else.

There used to be a Web site that had model init strings for various modems
under Linux, but I haven't consulted it in years. You might want to search
for it.
