[If this is off-topic, please point me elsewhere. Thanks --Rey] I just bought an APC Smart UPS (SU1000INET) and am wondering how to proceed to connect it to a PC running RedHat6. It comes with a black serial cable (940-0024C) and a UPS management software called Powerchute which installs on several platforms including Windows and SCO Unix but, alas, no mention of Linux. As it happens, I read the UPS HOWTO *after* I bought the UPS and realized that [sigh] another brand (BEST) would have been a better buy. I thought about installing the software on a Win95 client and have it notify the Linux server to shutdown but it looks like an ugly kludge. I read about making my own cables and such... On the other hand, I thought it best to check with the gurus here for a tried and tested, hopefully painless way to get this working. Any advice for a newbie? Thanks, Rey
