The problem is with the older version of sndconfig that shipped with RH 5.2.
I had the same problem with the same chip set (integrated on my motherboard)
until I upgraded using the sndconfig-0_29-6_i386.rpm file I found at
www.redhat.com under updates to RH 5.2. It set up beautifully after that.

Subject: Yamaha Opl3-sax doesnt install
Hi all,
I am running red-hat 5.2 on a cyrix MII 333 with 32 mb ram. I have a 2gb hdd
on which i have 1.2 for win and 800mb for linux. I have a yamaha opl3-sax
sound card. I tried to install it using the sndconfig utility but it is not
able to recognize my card. Even if i manage to select the card after that
from the list of cards, i do not know how to get the info about the i/o
ports, dma, irq etc. If i give the same values as those displayed by windows
where this card works fine, sndconfig reports the following message:
sound: device already busy
or something to that effect. I thought it could be a irq conflict and tried
various irq settings available but to no avail. Please help me. I lost my
sound card manual.
thanks for the patience
