I am far from being an expert in Linux issues, but I tried Blackbox in
my Penthium-I machine.
IMHO, Tt's a real nice piece of hacking and intelligence.
The whole package is less than 200 kb. and it has easy interface with
simple and easy to configure menus. You may setup as many virtual
desktops as you can.
It incredibly include some "themes". Supports up to 36 bits per pixel
and has just two binary files.
You'll like to try it for sure, even I think version 1.0 is not ready
yet.
I guess what you'll need is a "light" window manager, like fvwm2,
AnotherLevel, maybe WindowMaker... but I like blackbox very much and
it's a good choice for low performance machines.
I'm sure that my counseling deserves what I usually read here:
"just my $0.02"
:)
