That is very informative, what are the error messages in the log files
found in /var/logmessages and possably /var/log/httpd/error_log

I dont know how mutt works, but normaly the program biff tells users they
have mail, check the users profile in thier home dir, one possably has
biff n
and the other nothing, biff is "y" by default i think.
Another way of stopping new mail messages altoghter is commenting "comsat"
in /etc/inetd.conf and restarting inetd.
