I suggest these options in the XF86config file (I have a SiS 6326):
in the device section
"no_accel" - that is really needed
"no_linear" - that will force bpp to 8 and software support for cursor
"no_BitBLT" - never tried, I don't care
DefaultColorDepth 8 - in case you have problems with colors
you can use fast_vram and pci_burst to improve a little bit those poor
performance.
in the display section
take care of the 8bpp configuration, I only allow the modes "1024x768"
"800x600" "640x480" even if the "1280x1024" has been working.
please read the howto for SiS users, and try to get the Suse server
XFCom_Sis (and their XF86setup tool). Suse ftp site is provided by
wonderful RAY and if you hate Suse, the issue 3.3.6 of the XFree86
contains that server too.
good luck with SiS.
