To answer this without writing a whole page, you have an address or irq
problem.
What does
cat /proc/interrupts
cat /proc/ioports
say, attach the output in your next mail, along with the output of;
ls -al /dev/modem
ls -al /dev/mouse
If themodem is jumpered for irq5 you possably will need to use setserial to
tell the kernel where it is.
setserial /dev/modem irq 5
