asking? Do you own a modem or are you about to buy one? If the later is true

and make sure you buy a modem listed there as running under linux. 

If you want to get up and running with minimal hassle buy a US Robotics
sportster _external_ modem. My experiance is the internal modems are a hassle
to setup under linux, but with the sportster, I plugged it into the parallel
port, re-booted, and I had a PPP connection to a remote computer in less than
10 minutes (using eznet to establish my PPP conection).\
