Well? What's the error message? An exact quote of those messages would
certainly help.

I'm using Debian Woody, Helix Gnome, and Netscape 4.73 here with no
problems at all. I'd say it certainly couldn't hurt to upgrade XFree
to at least 3.3.6 Also, XFree 4.0 is out now. I have absolutely no
idea how well it works.
However, until those error messages are sorted out it's impossible to
tell what to do.
