Ok, got my XFree86 problem detailed a bit more....recall that I installed
4.0 over 3.6 I think it was (whichever version was in Mandrake 7.02). I
start X and the screen comes up in what I would guess is 640x480. I can do
the ctl-alt +/- routine and the resolution changes. BUT....the results are
pretty bad. By the time I get to a resolution which shows the whole screen
(including the taskbar or whatever KDE calls it) the refresh rate is
terrible. I would guess that it's 1280x1024 (60Hz which explains the shaky
screen). Ideally I like to run at 1024x768 which I can do on my 17" monitor
at 75Hz.

Now when I use the config tool in KDE and try to change resolution and test
it, the screen blanks and comes back to the current resolution and tells me
"could not open default font "fixed". I get this no matter if I try
1024x768 or 800x600. Also amount of colors change doesn't help. So I'm
kinda stumped at the moment in regard to restoring the default fixed font.

Sla/n go Fo/ill,

Jim
