What you describe is normall linux/etx2/fsck activity.
It should check all the partitions from time to time not only /dev/hda5, it
should check all oher partitions defined in /etc/fstab (ext2 partitions).
If you constanly turn off the machine you can increase the mount_count"
with a program called tune2fs. Read the manual page FIRST as you can
destroy a partition, the main thing is make sure the partition is not
mounted if you decide to use tune2fs.
As to postfix, you will have to give a better explanation on just what the
messages are. Not just "something" or "some files".
