your runlevel should be 5 now, if u can change that to 3 u will always start
the system in a command mode and when u type startx u wil lhave ur Xwindows
up.

Now how to change it
---------------

go to /etc and open a file called 'inittab' there u will have something like
this

id:5:initdefault:

change it to

id:3:initdefault:

i guess this hsould solve ur problem....
