If you take a minute to look at: http://packages.debian.org/changelogs/pool/main/l/linux-2.6/linux-2.6_2.6.26-25lenny1/changelog You will find that Debian certainly do fix and update drivers between releases - a quick browse through that list shows tens if not hundreds of updates during the 5.0.x release series, including wholesale backports of many drivers including the aforementioned bnx2 driver which applies to onboard PE NICs. Updates during 6.0.x should be that much more numerous and quick as all of Debian 6, RHEL6/CentOS6, Ubuntu 10.04 and SLES will be basing their kernels on the kernel.org 2.6.32.x releases - allowing for greatly increased sharing of effort and backporting/debugging between the distributions.
