We have a system with a RAID 1 configuration with 1 drive showing errors. Taking the system offline to do an array consistency check is unattractive to users and management. The documentation seems to say that I could plug a 3rd drive in as a hot spare, and have the array reconstruct itself on a running system.
Is this correct? How do I tell when it's done? The affected server is a PowerEdge 1550, and my predecessors did not see fit to install any Dell utiliites, much less a utility partition, so my only tools are those in the BIOS.
