I use kernel 2.0.38/ppp-2.3.9 and I have /dev/ppp. But I also get the
"modprobe:  can't locate module char-major-108" message. For what its
worth, I also get a "modprobe: can't locate module ppp0" message. I have
ppp compiled into the kernel and of course it works. So I never thought
too much about the error messages.
