Hi there all.

Excuse me if this is not the correct list to ask this question. If it
is not can you tell me which one I must ask this question?

I have a client that was complaining of CRC errors on one of his WAN
ports on a cisco router. The port is set up for synchronous PPP with VJ
compression set on the B side and none on the A side. His main traffic
is IP. It consist of DNS, Telnet, FTP and SMTP for E-Mail.

I used and HP Internet Advisor analyser to monitor his traffic. I have
filters set up for Telnet, FTP, DNS and SMTP. The Telnet and DNS filters
work as the counter step on. The problem that I am having is the SMTP
filter. The filter is setup as follows

Octet 5 = 45 Hex, Octet 14 = 06 Hex, Octet 25 = 00 Hex, Octet 26 = 19
Hex

When the client send an E-Mail, the SMTP filter does not count. I can
see that he is sending some thing as his bandwidth increases. The client
stops all other traffic and only send E-Mail and still nothing shows in
the SMTP filter.

Now the question: will VJ compression move the identifiers for SMTP as
stated above to different Octet positions? If so which positions so that
I then can have a filter setup for SMTP in compression mode?

I thank you all for your help with this one.
