Not to sound like a grump, but this answer is misleading. If one is a
little careless reading it one could gain the impression that ATW2 is the
command to use to find DCE speed. The point has been made, at least a
couple of times, that the commands to do this are different from modem to
modem. I think we could avoid giving information specific to your site or
mine as a general answer. It's not enormously helpful to be told that your
USR modem uses ATW2 for some specific feature.
Either of the following are better answers to the question:

> read the manual that came with [your modem]
