Plain text, hmmm. I doubt it. If they used a standard NT setup they probably
require PAP. That is the standard that Win95 & 98 machines normally use as a
default to dial in and most of your ISP's clients would be Windows.
If for some reason they do not use PAP (your tests suggest that. That is, if
you had PAP set up correctly) and really do use plain text scripts they
should supply you with some additional details for you to write the script
or a script, that does the job.
Check their web pages for any of this information. Also check again, that
your PAP was set correctly.
What are you using to connect? Linuxconf?
What Version Linux? Which distribution?
That information would help to diagnose the problem. And also include the
relevant parts for your logs.

Bernhard

Subject: Experienced WinNT Administrators/Users for Dialup Connections
I asked my ISP what terminal equipment and what authentication schemes
their system would accept. Their only reply was the plain text
username and password story. I was hoping someone with WinNT
experience would be able to shed some SUCCESSFUL detailed light on the
subject.
If there are good WinNT mailing lists or newsgroups, it would be
helpful.
I've tried PAP and CHAP and neither of them work. The ISP is using
the latest version of WinNT. Somehow there must be a SUCCESSFUL way
of authenticating my username and password with the ISP, but I know of
none.
Note: Detailed Documentation(s) and Sample(s) are more than welcome.
