To date I have not yet had a SATA based array drive go faulty - all mine have been PATA arrays on Intel or AMD MB controllers, which as per your experience, have failed out drives OK. I have one 3ware PATA card that is running hardware RAID10 and it has failed 4 drives over the years without trouble.
