I'm setting up a Raid 0 stripe on a news server. I have 3 IDE drives for just the stripe, installed and ready to go. I am running RH 5.1 on a 2.0.34 Kernel. I have compiled in support for the Promise Fast Track RAID card and Raid 0 and Linear stripes. I installed and compiled the Raid tools -0.4.1. Ran the MDCreate for the /etc/mdtab and show the following: # mdtab entry for /dev/md0 /dev/md0 raid0,4k,0,7edbac28 /dev/hdb1 /dev/hdc1 /dev/hdd1 Now when I execute the mdadd -ar I get and Operation not supported by device error. In /proc/mdstatus I show the following: Personalities : [1 linear] [2 raid0] read_ahead not set md0 : inactive md1 : inactive md2 : inactive md3 : inactive mdstat (END) Under /dev I do have a device named md0. Does anyone have any ideas? I'm fresh out. The documentation is pretty vague and I found the answers to the other problems I was having in the Archive. But this one has stumped me and no one has posted a similar question that I have seen. I am pretty new to system administration under Linux. ;) Also which would be a better way to go for a news server under Linux, Raid 0 or a linear stripe? -- Sincerely, Mark Atkinson System Administrator EagleNet Online
