It is rather the disks than the case that will melt down.

The manufacturers of good external enclosures will certify their cases for
certain disks (e.g. 10,000 RPM allowed/not allowed). Those enclosures
usually have dual power supplies, dual fans and extra circuits to surveil
those components, some even have modem or network ports to report failure
via SNMP.

Unfortunately this kind of enclosure is very expensive. In real life they
are usually sold with hardware SCSI-SCSI Raid controllers, but can of course
be operated without them.

As I only have practical experience with one brand, I will refrain from any
recommendation.
