Does the Promise Fastrack work at all?

I have been trying to follow the Promise Fastrack discussion. It appears
that no-one (Promise) has a driver for the card under Linux. Does this
mean that the card won't work at all or that fine tuning cannot be done
with it?

I was hoping that the card would have a bios of it's own and that Linux
would never see it (it would just represent itself as /dev/hda). Am I
living in a dreamworld? Has it worked at all for anyone?
