If you only add/remove drives in the ``end'' of the array, you _should_ be
able to add/remove drives only loosing/gaining what you remove/add.

After a change you can mkraid the array again, and if you have an ext2
filesystem on it, you can probably use ext2resize to resize that to fit
the new size of the array.   Note however, that ext2resize only supports
*growing* filesystems.  You're out of luck for shrinking.

NOTE!!  The above is something I *assume* is correct.  I've never tried it.
It is a hack, and it is likely to go wrong if everything isn't done exactly
right.
Practice this with a number of loopback-devices or spare disks before trying
the stunt on an array with real data on it.   And keep backups of course  ;)
