Actually, nothing should stop you from putting the OS on software RAID either.
Back in the old days, putting the OS on RAID was difficult. With the 0.90 RAID,
this is quite doable. The only major hazzle is that most installation programs
doesn't allow installation on RAID. I think RedHat 6.1 somewhat fixes this (I
haven't been successfull with it myself though, but only tried once).
