Speaking of IDE, can anyone answer me this. How come, when I use my IDE
drive heavily (like cat /dev/zero > somefile) my system virtually freezes
up. This includes mouse, keyboard, everything. Eventually it comes back when
the disk IO is done but in the interim nothing moves. And, yes, I do have
DMA set to on via hdparm.

P.S. I too have a SMP machine. It is wonderful when using VMware.
