Wow, that's pretty impressive.  Especially since Linus didn't start
working on Linux until 1991.... ;')

If you want a jump start on the HW and SW, I'd suggest a VA Linux box.
I was pleased to see that their kernel and command-line tools
(including Lilo) were current enough to get raid working w/o a hitch.
