Hi,
I try to configure a RAID-1 system, but I have some problems.
First of all I have tried to send a email to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
and
[EMAIL PROTECTED] to be part of this list without any
results.
I'm running a Debian 2.2 system (potato). I downloaded the 2.2.16 kernel
and
the raid-2.2.16-A0 patch from http://people.redhat.com/mingo/
I have also installed the raidtools2 debian package which is ver
0.90.990824.
My plan is to run a mirrored system with the following partitions:
/ , /var , /tmp , /usr and /opt
I have two identical IDE disks installed as hda and hdc. For the moment
I'm
running the system on hdc as recommended in the HOWTO.
After recompiling the kernel with raid support and autodetect I try to
follow
the instructions at
http://www.linuxdoc.org/HOWTO/Software-RAID-HOWTO.html
First of all I have question about partitions - I guess that I should
have a
mirror for each partition. Before I have worked with hardware RAID
configured
for RAID-5 and HP-UX Mirror-Disk. I guess that I creat more /dev/md*
with
/dev/MAKEDEV.
I have tried a number off ways to activate the raid but mkraid allways
complains.
If I have set the fs-type to "Linux raid auto" (0xFD) on hda1, mkraid
say
something about wrong superblock. If have a normal filesystem (0x83) on
hda1,
mkraid says:
# mkraid /dev/md0
handling MD device /dev/md0
analyzing super-block
raid_disk conflict on /dev/hda1 and /dev/hdc1 (0)
mkraid: aborted, see the syslog and /proc/mdstat for potential clues.
I can't find anything in /var/log/* and /proc/mdstat says:
# cat /proc/mdstat
Personalities : [linear] [raid0] [raid1] [raid5]
read_ahead not set
unused devices: <none>
I have tried different config in /etc/raidtab, but for the moment it
looks like:
# cat /etc/raidtab
raiddev /dev/md0
raid-level 1
nr-raid-disks 2
nr-spare-disks 0
chunk-size 4
persistent-superblock 1
device /dev/hda1
raid-disk 0
device /dev/hdc1
failed-disk 0
Can anyone help me out, both with this problem and to add me to the
maillist?
