Turns out that that "branch", is actually a tag (the only one I fetch,
but it doesn't cause any hassle).

In case it helps, next-20150817 contained this as the for-next tag:

Initial roundup of 4.3 merge window candidates

    # gpg: Signature made Sun 02 Aug 2015 07:21:56 AEST using RSA key ID
0E572FDD
    # gpg: Oops: keyid_from_fingerprint: no pubkey
    # gpg: Good signature from "Doug Ledford <dledf...@redhat.com>" [undefined]
    # gpg: aka "Doug Ledford (Personal email)
<dledf...@xsintricity.com>" [unknown]
    # gpg: aka "[jpeg image of size 3057]" [unknown]
    # gpg: WARNING: This key is not certified with a trusted signature!
    # gpg: There is no indication that the signature belongs to the
owner.
    # Primary key fingerprint: AE6B 1BDA 122B 23B4 265B 1274 B826 A333 0E57

And the associated commit was:

153b7306b7c6 ("Merge branch 'hfi1-v4' into to-be-rebased/for-4.3")

>From next-20150903, the for-next tag pointed back into Linus' tree
("Linux 4.2").
