Ok, that makes alot of sense now.  See, because kernel-config shows the
NCRc7,8xx driver first, I asumed that was the driver to select for a
symbios logic 875 chipset (found on the DC390F).  I pressed ? (you know,
you have choices such as [N/y/m/?] while configuring the kernel) to see
if it told me anything more info, but it had only two sentences
restating that that was the NCR53c7,8xx driver; already obvious.  I had
no idea that this driver is separate from NCR53c8xx; if I had known
that, I would have waited to select that.  Ok now all I need to do is
some how boot into the system, use the old kernel, and recompile the new
one with NCR53c8XX support in it.  I tried using the boot/rescue disk,
but it did not let me see the disk either, so I couldn't mount it.
