I have the same problem with a IBM DORS 4gig on the 2940 but
with a
Fujitsu-MO drive (2512A i think). When I attached it in on
the external
side of the scsi-chain it was o.k. - mean the scsi
controller is
between this two "problematic" devices.
(Yes I have checked termination carefully!)
After a defect of this IBM drive I got a new one of the same
type
and this shows again the same behavior as the old one. Any
other
device (tested more than 10 other) has no malfunction with
this FujiMO
on any side of the chain. But the IMB drive also do not like
an old
Micropolis drive sitting on the same chain with the 2940
controller.
Both devices(IBM-hdd and Fujitsu-MO) do their job with other
controllers:
tested 2940UW and 1542CF. So I avoid to combine this three

It is the same for me from kernel 2.0.30 up to 2.2.3 with
aix7xxx.c 5.1.12
patch.
I'm also very interested to hear more about other than
hardware based
solutions ...
