Hi, I am looking for some help to get an old SCSI device going: an
Abaton scanner. I've diagnosed the problem as to why the scanner is
giving me problems, it resets itself whenever it receives the SCSI
    command TEST_UNIT_READY.

So, I have attempted to abort the TEST_UNIT_READY command in the low
level driver (the aha1542). However, my attempts didn't seem to work.
Does anyone have any tips as to how to work around this problem?

Easiest solution: forget it.
Many of these old scanners are not SCSI but "SCSI", and do not implement
the SCSI protocol but something somewhat similar to a much simplified
version of the SCSI protocol. They require a specific driver.
Writing that is usually no worth it.
If you have a driver under DOS then it may be possible to look at what
it does (e.g. in a DOS box) and reverse engineer it.
