doug: thx for the ptrs. i'll take a look & see if my
somewhat considerable concerns about the older
sg i/f are allayed. may i assume you're still interested
in feedback?

ps a bit of context. we -- workstation solutions -- are
a small company that builds backup software and has
either written our own drivers or taken advantage of
various scsi pass-through drivers on sparc, domain,
aix, irix, ncr, nt, hp400, hp700, and h800. we're considering
linux server support, thus our interest in sg.
