Doug,

I just wanted to get back to you on my chronic timeout problems.  After
considerable experimentation, I realized that I never saw any problems
when running at the console (no X display active).  Subsequently, I
narrowed it down to an apparent interaction with the MetroX Server!

After switching back to the latest XF86_SVGA driver, the problems vanished
completely, so I'm guessing that MetroX disables interrupts for an
inappropriate amount of time.

Have you ever seen any effects like this?  IIRC, RedHat ships MetroX with
the boxed distribution.
