Hi There,

I'm trying to install RedHat6.0 on a new system (PIII 500, gigabyte
GA-BX2000). The disks are both LVD U2W (IBM Ultrastars), they are
attached to the U2W port on the card with a cable supplied in the 2940U2W
kit (with termination attached), having SCSI ID' of 0 and 1. The eide CDROM
is on the Primary IDE slave. SCSI bios has been set to boot from 0

Anyhow on boot the SCSI bios is loaded and both the disks are recognised
(I have tried this also with the SCSI adapter rates reduced to 20Mb/sec).
The Redhat install works through the initial stages of the install. Then
depending on what I have connected the following happens:

1) If I also have the HP DAT DDS-3 connected to the SCSI card using the
50pin connection SCSI ID = 4, then the install hangs whilst searching the
SCSI bus (you need to reboot).

2) If only the two disks are connected, the install makes it past the SCSI
bus search, recoginises the 2940 card, but then in the next stage suggests
that there are no hard drives setup on the system. So you have nowhere to
install a system and also have to reboot.

So I could go down the 'add initially an EIDE drive get things going and
then get the SCSI running after a kernel rebuild'. But I wondered if
anyone knew of any problems with the U2W (I've had no problems with a
system set up using a 2940 W card previously). Or if using the 6.1 system
may solve this install issue,

cheers, Jim
