  If you would please excuse my lame a** for being to slow
to read the "to" address... It wasn't meant for this list :-(

 That said - I'll try here as well...

   I'm having problems with kernel 2.3.x on a Compaq Proliant
5000 server. (The old model with P.Pro processors). When I
build a kernel from the 2.3.x range, and compile with the same
HW options as I do with a 2.2.x kernel, I lose most of my PCI
hardware.
 
   That is, the NCR538x SCSI controller, my 3Com netcard (3c905B
and 3c985B). On the other hand, my Smart2/P raid controller stays
the same... (Basically I'm trying to get the kernel 2.3.23+  kernel
running since it has builtin support for the 3c985B fiber card)

 The problem is the same on both RH6.0 and 6.1
