CD-Writer read speed?
SCSI HP CD-Writer+ 9200i, running SuSE 6.2 eval. CD on AMD K6/233.
Log and script files at http://mngovsci.com, Linux, scsi-cd-writer.
The CD write operations seem to work fine.
The CD read operations are some times a lot slower than at other times,
all other things being equal.
The cdlog*.txt file is just one run of writing and verify using diff.
Please notice the Maximum read speed, and Current read speed lines.
They rarely are equal.
How can the read speed be made equal to the maximum speed at all times?
Is this a bug? Should the driver or drive be keeping the read speed at
maximum whenever the media allows?
Earlier on a 311 MB ISO image written to a CD-R at speed=8 the write took
5 min, the verify took 12 min. I took the CD-R out of the machine. Later I
put it back in and did the very same verify. 4 min! What accounts for a
difference in 8 min. reading half a CD, all else being equal?
Thanks much.
