My virtual HBA for USB mass storage devices contains several places where
I wait for the device to respond to my commands for a timeout of "a few"
seconds. Unfortunately, I'm pretty sure that the timeouts were originally
chosen somewhat arbitrarily, and I know that they are sub-optimal.
So, I want to change them. Of course, the maximum timeout for my HBA
should be equal to or less than the timeout that the SCSI layer is going
to impose on me. I've been told that for most commands (READ, etc) the
timeout is ~~10-20 seconds. I've noticed, however, that for some commands
(ie INQUIRY) it seems much shorter.
So, what I would like to know is this: What are the timeouts on SCSI
commands, and where (in general) is this type of information located?
