I have serious trouble caused by an Adaptec 19160-card and the
connected SCSI-devices. The setup works just fine in Windows 98. It
works fine with linux until it hangs. Hard. Sometimes there are
reported SCSI-errors or SCSI-timeouts, but the end result always is
one or more Oops followed by a complete and utter lockup of the system
(no ping-answers, no reaction to keyboard events (i.e. it isn't even
possible to change the state of the CapsLock-diode) etc.).
I have used "linux console=ttyS..." to get the Oops info to a more
stable system. Interested parties can read the attached text. The
interesting version ought to be the one run through ksymoops.
The aic7xxx-version is the plain-vanilla RedHat 6.2-version (the
example is from a recompiled version and I've tested with the latest
driver disk from the Doug Ledfords without any improvement).
Connected to the chain is a Quantum Atlas IV on the wide bus and a
pioneer dvd u303s and a plextor 124s on the narrow bus. The errors
occur more frequently when several devices is used simultainously.
I have win98 for games and office. I'd like a working linux on this
machine, as my other machine is three years old and utterly slow in
comparison.
