Hi,

I am about to take some vacations and will be out of email contact for
more than 2 weeks. I will be back on August the 14th.

Since linux-2.2.17 may go out of the door during this period, I have made
available my latest driver sources at the usual location:

   ftp://ftp.tux.org/pub/roudier/drivers/linux/stable/
        sym-1.7.1-ncr-3.4.1.tar.gz

The tarball contains full driver sources to allow using the driver under
various 2.2.X, 2.3.X, pre-2.4.0 and future 2.4.X kernels.

This new versions only address a couple of fixes for PPC against
sym-1.7.0-ncr-3.4.0 also available from the same location.

As I wrote 2 weeks ago (see below), it seems to me important this new
driver versions to be accepted for next kernel 2.2.18, since sym-1.7.X
provides support for the SYM53C1010 U160 PCI-SCSI controller and numerous
userS may (will) need to install a distribution using such controller.

It is obviously possible for a good Linux hacker to install any distro
using a SYM53C1010 given the new driver sources, and I plan to update to
RedHat 6.latest when I will be back from vacations, but end-user will
generally not be able to do so. I obviously expect some not desirable
noise here.

For the driver to be accepted for next stable kernel, it must be trusted
by kernel maintainers, not only for the SYM53C1010, but also for all
Symbios chips, and this can only happen if I can arg about the driver
having been heavily tested.

  Grard.

PS:
Btw, FreeBSD supports the C1010 since 4.0R March 8, but its development
model is very different from the Linux one and this may explain that. No
critics against 'Super' Alan here. But I donnot understand why Linux
stable hasn't been moved under the usual CVS based development model,
given that Linus seems to have given maintainance of linux-stable to the
community. Hmmm..., if I weren't flame-immune for these 2 next weeks, I
wouldn't have written that. ;-)

Below, my previous posting about lack of SYM53C1010 support in linux
stable:
