Saya pake RedHat6.1
XFree86 yang digunakan versi berapa?
Kalau pada versi 3.3.5, S3Tri3D/2X belum didukung.
Bisa dicoba setup dengan perintah: "xf86config"
ketika ditanya/sesion card/VGA pilih "S3 ViRGE/GX", lalu selesaikan setup.
Setelah itu buka file XF86Config, kalau di RedHat ada biasanya di /etc/X11.
Cari baris:
#option "xaa_benchmark"
#option "fifo_moderate"
#option "pci_burst_on"
#option "pci_retry"
lalu sisipkan dibawahnya:
ChipID 0x8a10
VideoRam 4096 #sesuai jumlah RAM VGA Card Anda.
Simpan file tersebut.
Seandainya cara di atas tidak berhasil juga, maka buka file XF86Config,
cari:
#Device configured by xf86config:
Setelah ketemu, hapus/ubah semua tulisan di bawahnya dan ganti dengan:

Kalau males ngetik, copy aja ini perintah2 lalu paste di XF86Config.
Jangan lupa ketika setup pake perintah "xf86config", VGA Card yang dipilih
"S3 Virge/GX".
Setelah selesai, jalankan "startx"
