Hello Linus,
please forgive me (dumb luser, me!).... I disqualified myself by doing the
following:
- compiled kernel with pgcc .... first time for a LOOONG time it doesn't compile
the kernel in a right way on my system
- reported a bug without checking the kernel compiled with gcc-2.7.3
- tried to boot an old kernel with improper parameters (mem=128M ... but had
only 92 that time) .. so kernel failed at reading the partition tables.
Conclusion:
- My brain was not switched on the last days
- partition tables or MB record were not affected
- changes in io_apic.c cause pgcc-2.90.27 to produce bad code
- Tyan BIOS 4.02 reports MP version 1.1 instead of 1.4, so I went back to 4.01
- kernel with #define USE_ELCR_TRIGGER_LEVEL works now :)

Thx for messing around with braindamaged kernel testers...
