Hi Eric,
I think 128 MB is sufficient for many applications, however since RAM is
cheap I would suggest 256 MB. IBM harddisks usually are a good choice,
fast + reliable. From our experience Linux 2.0.36 runs very stable under
basically the same configuration. (IBM 9GB ,SCSI CDROM, 256 MB,ASUS P2DS)
Our harddisk is connected to the UW port, not to the faster U2W port.
The performance of such a system is really impressive. In science
applications these kind of systems are getting more and more common due to
the unbeatable computing power/price ratio.
