Well, I wasn't going to reply to messages like this...or the one from Alan
Cox stating I should take this to an NT list, but it seems some are a
little narrow minded and need help visualizing the reasoning.
1) Yes, it is to be an NT machine and this is a linux list.
- Those who read/contibute to this list should consider it a compliment
that I feel that the linux-smp list is the place to find the most
knowledgable multi-processor users.
2) Reasons for using UltraSparc machines to act as clients:
- 50+ UltraSparcs already in use...engineering applications
- 3 or 4 Engineering Applications that must run on NT
What are the possible solutions?
Buy an NT(or other Microsoft OS based) machine for each engineer that
needs to run this application in addition to the Sparcs they already have,
OR Buy a powerful NT server and set up the Unix users as clients.
The second option is MUCH more cost effective if done right.
If you don't like the part about NT, maybe you should just focus on this
part:
I am looking for recommendations on Quad Xeon/Pentium II/Pentium Pro
servers (notice the generic lack of OS specifics).
