Hello all.

This is the first time I summit mail to this list. Please forgive me if
this is an old question.

I try to build a new server. I found that this two configuration is
about the same price :

A. Dual P-II 300
   2 * P-II 300 CPU
   TYAN Thunder 2 mainboard
   - LX chipset
   - with Adaptec 2985 on board (dual U/W scsi)

B. P-II 400
   1 * P-II 400 CPU
   ASUS BX chipset mainboard

The new server is mainly used for software development and as a database
server. From the information I gathered, SMP has very good performance
on compilation (near linear ?). For database access, the SCSI on TYAN
would provide better performance. Since BX chipset using 100MHZ bus
while LX chipset using 66MHZ bus, I just want to know the pros and cons
on this two system.

Thanks in advance. Any comment is wellcome.

Best regards,

Almond Wong
