I have just have three freezes with XFree-3.3.3 from RedHat updates
and kernel 2.2.1.
The first two freezes the XFree has been running for 6 hours and 8
hours, the last just only two, and I have switched to a vc just to
see if there are some printed in the console in case of a freeze, but
I have forgotten cons.saver and when I return to see all what I have
is just a black monitor, the other times I can see the screensaver
freezed.
The freezes are _really solid freezes_ nothing works alt-F1, alt-F2,
SysRq, nothing, the second freeze the SysRq-b worked, but none of
SysRq-s or SysRq-u worked, only the last, boot.
Of course nothing in the syslog.
The machine has no network trafic, and I think that this could be
caused by netscape-glibc-4.5, because it was running all the times,
doing nothing, but opened, for example when I load the "halloween"
document (a big html) the entire X freezes a moment while it download
the doc and reder it (downloading from local ethernet, with no
traffic), what I meant is that netscape is able to freeze the display
while it render the doc.
I don't know if it's SMP related, but I'm planing in getting a serial
cable and attach it to a another linux machine that sits at four or
five meters form here (the source of the halloween doc) and enable a
serial console just to see what happens.
P.D. anyone knows how to disable the cons.saver...
