I don't think anyone was talking about a multi-way switch???
The point is you can sometimes reset a locked keyboard (it seems) by
unplugging it and plugging it back in. I can't see any possibility of 'making
before breaking' in such a situation...
I too though have heard that un/plugging live PS/2 connectors is somewhat
dangerous. Can't really imagine why - seemed safe with the old 5-pin DIN
keyboard connectors. You would have thought they would have designed any such
problems out with the newer PS/2 connectors. Maybe it's just a physical thing
they overlooked - i.e. You can short things out with a mis-alignment and a
little bit of force. - Of course, with a multi-way switch this won't happen.
When will plug designers ever learn?
(I say this after a couple of nights of frustration recently with the old
floppy cable keying issue - lets just say there are a few plastic particles
clogging up the file in my garage toolbox now...)
(P.S. Sorry this has gone pretty well off-topic)
