It might be everything (MB, CPU, memory) but we are able to duplicate the
failure: rlogin to the machine and from there rlogin to another machine.
Try something like cat /etc/passwd a coupe of times and zap: the machine
reboots.
By swapping the Intel EtherExpress PRO/100+ with a 3C509 everything works
just fine.
My bet is that either the driver for the inter board is buggy or the
100mbits generates too much interrupts (bug in the kernel, then).
I'm wondering if there is some test I could run to figure out what's wrong
with this setting but, having no other 100mbits adapter, I can't think of
anything useful. Maybe it could be interesting to run the intel adapter at
10mbits but I have no idea on how to force this speed.
Suggestions, patches and pointers are appreciated.
